When researching performance issues with OpenAI’s current documentation while there is no evidence that simply having a large number of old chats in your account directly makes ChatGPT’s model responses slower. OpenAI documentation points to cache/cookies, browser extensions, network/VPN issues, service load, and sometimes problems isolated to a particular conversation. OpenAI explicitly recommends trying a new chat when a conversation appears stuck or unusually slow.
